[Video|SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won: Memory demand will continue to grow, and our supply capacity will never catch up] On July 11, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won stated in an interview with Bloomberg that AI is fundamentally transforming the demand logic of the memory chip industry. In the past, memory demand was primarily constrained by population and the number of end devices. In the future, however, each person may simultaneously own dozens or even hundreds of AI agents, generating massive amounts of cache that will drive an enormous demand for memory. For this reason, SK Hynix plans to double its overall production capacity over the next five years. Chey Tae-won predicts that memory demand in the AI era will grow exponentially, supply shortages may persist for years, and capacity expansion will still struggle to keep up with demand.
