Gristle buddeez worldwide is the work of Mark Wilson, an Indiana-based artist and author better known as diewiththemostlikes — and, in performance, by his alter ego Alphonso Knudsen. He has no formal art training. And only studied amusement park ride operations at the University of Phoenix online. He minted his first NFT in March 2021, after a joke campaign poster he made for comedian Eric Andre went viral and a stranger handed him an invite to mint. He describes his own style in two words: relentless and bludgeoning. Wilson built a following by turning the internet on itself. His "good meat" series began as a jab at crypto's endless "gm" posting, replacing the morning-coffee ritual with heaving piles of rotting beef — a bit that stuck so hard that collectors now reply "good meat" to each other. His work is grotesque on the surface and documentarian underneath, drawing on absurdist writers like Hunter S. Thompson and Irvine Welsh, as well as the ink-splattered chaos of illustrator Ralph Steadman. Alongside the visual art, he has published five books across three international publishers. That instinct for provocation has carried into serious rooms. Wilson was accepted to SuperRare after submitting a deliberately unhinged application video, and his art has since shown at DART in Milan, the Decentralized Art Pavilion tied to the Venice Biennale, and Heft Gallery's 2025 "Groundwork" exhibition in New York. He staged a residency in Marfa, Texas titled "30 days in marfa," and in 2023 CoinDesk commissioned him to render Senator Elizabeth Warren in his signature ground-beef style for its Most Influential package. Gristle buddeez worldwide launched in June 2025 through Transient Labs on Ethereum, a collection of 2,004 meat "buddeez," each a unique cut rendered with absurdist traits and its own thread of lore. The project wraps a fully satirical universe around a fictional institution — the "Sotharby's Bar, Grill & Adult Bookstore" — to skewer the way status, hype, and "grail" reputations are manufactured in the NFT market. buddee 513 wears an "opensea stigmata" trait and cradles the OpenSea logo in one hand.
