[Waller Advocates Abandoning the 2% Inflation Target, Prefers Setting a 1.5%-2.5% Range]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on July 14, Federal Reserve Governor Waller stated that he favors setting the inflation target as a range rather than the current single target point of 2%, as the latter imposes overly strict evaluations of policy effectiveness. Waller expressed a personal preference for setting the inflation target within a range of 1.5%-2.5%, as it is unrealistic to demand that the central bank precisely control inflation to a specific figure. He noted that judging the success or failure of monetary policy based on a single target point can sometimes be overly harsh, while adopting a target range may better align with the realities of economic operations.
