[Lawson Convenience Stores in Japan Launch JPYC Stablecoin Payment Pilot] According to FN News, Japanese convenience store chain Lawson will launch a JPYC (yen-pegged stablecoin) payment pilot at its Gateway City store in Tokyo in early August. This pilot is being conducted in collaboration with digital asset wallet provider Hashport, aiming to enable consumers to make payments using smartphone e-wallets. This marks the first time in Japan that stablecoin payments are being integrated with POS systems for testing. By connecting with the POS system, purchase data such as product quantities and payment times can be integrated into the existing store management system for streamlined management. Lawson plans to evaluate the stability of integration with the POS system and the time required for actual payments through this experiment before deciding whether to fully implement the system.
