According to Wu Blockchain, amidst the controversy surrounding the Ledger security team's earlier disclosure of a physical attack vulnerability in Tangem cards—which cannot be fixed due to non-upgradable firmware—Tangem's CTO, Andrey Lazutkin, published a post defending their minimalist design. He stated that the more components a hardware wallet has, the larger the attack surface becomes. Therefore, Tangem adopts a design with no screen, no battery, and non-upgradable firmware. Andrey argued that firmware upgrades themselves are long-term code injection entry points, and an immutable design reduces the need for ongoing trust in the manufacturer. He also pointed out that the mnemonic phrases of traditional hardware wallets are the main security weakness, and fully exposing the underlying mechanisms of secure chips could potentially provide attackers with clues.
