According to Bitcoin News, Alaska Senate Bill SB 249 will officially take effect on October 1, 2026. The bill imposes strict regulatory requirements on cryptocurrency ATMs. It mandates that crypto ATM operators must obtain a money transmitter license, register each machine with the state government, and set transaction limits of $1,000 per person per day and $10,000 within 30 days. The maximum transaction fee is capped at 10%.
Additionally, the bill requires operators to display prominent anti-fraud warnings on the machines and collect user information through strict KYC procedures before transactions. Blockchain analysis technology must also be used to screen wallet addresses. The bill includes a "Strict Liability" clause, meaning operators will be held directly responsible if fraud occurs due to failure in implementing verification procedures.
