A little-known fact: Thinking that women are the biggest consumers of male escorts is a misconception. And if you think this is the case in China, you're even more mistaken. China has never had publicly available statistics on the profession of sexual clients. I've heard that some law enforcement agencies in certain cities have collected data, but it has never been fully disclosed.
In reality, in many markets (mainly in Western countries), the primary clientele for male escort services is still predominantly male. A study published in the U.S. academic journal *The Journal of Sex Research*, which surveyed 495 male clients, found that 75% identified as gay and 18% identified as bisexual.
The paper *A Global Overview of Male Escort Websites* also mentions that among 499 male escort websites across 60 countries, 57% catered exclusively to male clients, 11% exclusively to female clients, and 10% to heterosexual couples. The rest were mixed-gender, mixed-couple, or indeterminate.
Based on publicly available data from practitioners, there are approximately 72,106 male escorts serving male clients, compared to about 32,948 serving female clients or couples. The former is roughly 2.2 times the latter.
So, in the global male escort market, it's primarily men purchasing services from men. There's no evidence to support the claim that women are the main consumers.
