[OpenAI Head of Safety Johannes Heidecke to Depart]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that OpenAI Chief Research Officer Mark Chen disclosed in an internal memo that the company's Head of Safety, Johannes Heidecke, will be leaving following an internal restructuring. Moving forward, the safety team will report directly to Vice President of Research Mia Glaese. This adjustment signifies that OpenAI will integrate AI safety and research systems with model safety, alignment research, and core development work under a unified management framework. Advancing model capabilities while mitigating potential risks has become a key focus for both OpenAI and the broader AI industry.
In earlier news, Apple has officially filed a lawsuit against OpenAI for allegedly stealing trade secrets, accusing the company and its hardware head of participating in an organized effort to obtain information about Apple's upcoming products. Apple also claims that OpenAI encouraged Apple employees to share information, components, schematics, and other materials related to upcoming products, which were allegedly used as part of OpenAI's efforts to develop its own suite of devices.
