[Housing Bill Containing CBDC Ban to Automatically Take Effect Early Saturday Morning Local Time, Trump's Refusal to Sign Invalid]
According to CoinDesk, the bipartisan housing bill containing a CBDC ban will automatically take effect early Saturday morning, July 11, local time, despite President Trump's refusal to sign it. Trump posted on Truth Social, stating, 'I will not sign the housing bill in protest of the Senate's failure to pass the Protect American Voter Integrity Act.' However, the U.S. Constitution stipulates that if the president does not sign a bill approved by Congress within 10 days, it automatically becomes law. Since Trump did not exercise his veto power, the bill will take effect at midnight local time on Saturday.
The CBDC ban, which will remain in place until the end of 2030, prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing a digital dollar. This ban has been repeatedly included in various bills by Republicans and was ultimately attached to housing legislation. Trump's refusal to sign the bill has raised concerns, as similar challenges may arise if Congress passes the Clarity Act during the summer.
