Everyone is blinded by raw GPU and storage hype, missing the real physical bottleneck. A Reuters report about a Meta memo mapping an aggressive jump to 14 gigawatts of compute just validated a massive hardware play. While retail treats memory and GPUs as the default winners, optical networking is what keeps the entire network from melting. When you link clusters at a 14 GW scale, traditional copper data transfer completely chokes from extreme heat and latency. Hyperscalers are hitting a hard physics wall and are forced to pivot to pure optical laser interconnects. Lumentum owns the specific laser hardware that allows these massive distributed architectures to talk to each other, which is why it ripped 13%. Sure, SanDisk popped 7% because Meta locked in storage capacity to feed the pipelines, but memory is just an afterthought if you can't even move the data between the processors.(Lark Davis)
