[Meta Denies AI Computing Power Surplus, Claims Renting Out Computing Power Can Sometimes Be More Valuable Than Internal Use]
Odaily Planet Daily News – Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company is considering renting out part of its AI computing power to external clients, noting that some external offers are so high that Meta believes renting out computing power might be more valuable than keeping it for internal use. Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta is not experiencing a surplus of AI computing power, and the company is still fully utilizing its existing computational resources. He added that almost no companies in the industry believe their computing power is sufficient.
According to reports, Meta is exploring two types of cloud service models: one involves hosting proprietary or third-party AI models and charging based on usage, while the other involves directly selling basic computing power, similar to the model used by AI cloud computing company CoreWeave. Additionally, Meta recently launched the Meta Model API and has begun charging for Muse Spark 1.1.
Zuckerberg also mentioned that SpaceX's short-term model of renting out computing power to external companies is "very interesting," and Meta will evaluate similar high-value transaction opportunities.
