Here it comes, here it comes—OpenAI GPT-5.6 suite is finally here! OpenAI has announced the launch of the GPT-5.6 series models, featuring three different tiers of architecture: Sol, Terra, and Luna. These models are being gradually rolled out globally across ChatGPT, Codex, and API. This marks a key technological iteration for OpenAI in multi-agent collaboration and reasoning efficiency, aiming to lower the actual computational power threshold and token consumption for advanced reasoning tasks. In benchmark performance, the flagship model GPT-5.6 Sol scored 53.6 points in the Agents' Last Exam (a comprehensive agent capability test), outperforming competitor Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 (adaptive version) by 13.1 points. For medium-intensity reasoning tasks, Sol meets technical benchmarks while estimating costs at about one-fourth of Fable 5. The lower-tier models, Terra and Luna, also surpassed Fable 5 in specific benchmarks, with operating costs reduced to approximately one-sixteenth. In the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, Sol set a new technical benchmark with a score of 80.0, 2.8 points higher than Fable 5, while cutting token usage and response time by more than half. Beyond reducing underlying computational costs, GPT-5.6 introduces the "Ultra Mode" for multi-agent parallel coordination. This mode allows the model to coordinate multiple sub-agents for concurrent tasks by increasing token consumption, enabling it to handle complex long-text projects. On the design and computer-use front, the new model incorporates a visual reflection and correction mechanism. After generating front-end code, it can autonomously inspect and fine-tune the rendered webpage for both visual and functional aspects, breaking past the limitations of purely text-based outputs. Additionally, the updated editable Artifacts feature supports direct integration and export of generated presentations, documents, and spreadsheets into existing enterprise office toolchains.
