[BIG3 NFT Buyers Sue Rapper Ice Cube's Basketball League for Alleged Fraud]
According to Decrypt, NFT buyers of the BIG3 basketball league, owned by American rapper Ice Cube, have filed a class-action lawsuit in a California court, accusing the league of false and fraudulent marketing during its Ethereum NFT sales in 2022. The NFTs were divided into two tiers: Fire tier priced at $25,000 and Gold tier priced at $5,000. BIG3 promised holders benefits such as team ownership, voting rights, season tickets, and a share of future team sale proceeds, claiming these rights would be 'permanent.' However, these promises were not fulfilled. In 2024, BIG3 sold four teams to external investors for approximately $40 million. The lawsuit alleges that part of the sale proceeds should have been allocated to NFT holders, as they were the league's earliest private investors.
