[Spotify Removes Fake Streams of Chart-Topping Song Due to Suspicious Kalshi Betting Incident]
According to Bloomberg, music streaming platform Spotify has removed over 500,000 fake streams of musician Malcolm Todd's song *Earrings*, which had unexpectedly climbed to the top of the charts. Spotify's investigation revealed that the manipulation of play counts was linked to betting activities on prediction markets—traders on the Kalshi platform had wagered on which song would become the most-streamed song on U.S. Spotify in June, with the market attracting $3 million in trading volume. Before Spotify completed its investigation, Kalshi had already declared Todd the winner based on the manipulated data and settled the bets. After uncovering the issue, Spotify requested that Kalshi and Polymarket remove its branding and clarify that there is no partnership between the parties. Kalshi stated it is cooperating with the investigation, while Polymarket has not responded.
