This move follows the approach of competitor OpenAI, aiming to gain greater control over the costly computational infrastructure that supports its AI models. Google and Amazon Web Services have successfully developed their own chips after years of investment; Meta and Microsoft have also launched self-designed chips. OpenAI, in collaboration with Broadcom, designed its own chips in 2024 and released the first product of their partnership, Jalapeño, last month.
