In May, the U.S. M2 broad money supply surged by a massive $247.8 billion month-over-month, pushing the total money supply to a historic peak of $23.1 trillion. This single-month increase marks the highest record since May 2021. From an annual cumulative perspective, in the first five months of this year (January to May), the U.S. M2 supply has skyrocketed by $69.86 billion, making it the most intense monetary credit expansion cycle for this period in the past five years. The current U.S. broad money stock is now a full $1.3 trillion higher than the previous historical peak in March 2022, when the Federal Reserve began its tightening cycle. Since 2000, the total amount of money in circulation in the U.S. has maintained an average annual compound growth rate of 6.3%.
