Anthropic secretly engaging in spy-like activities is seriously crossing the line—way more intolerable than just banning accounts.
1. Embedding address trackers in emails
2. Claude code sending info from your local computer to determine if you're a Chinese user
3. Checking your operating system's timezone
4. Parsing relay stations and blacklists of major Chinese internet companies
If these 4 methods confirm you're in China, this info gets fed into system prompts and, through steganography (hidden messages, like ciphertext), they can manipulate the returned information to cause damage.
But you need to know that Anthropic is doing this to *all* users, meaning theoretically, they can arbitrarily ban, monitor, steal, alter, or send back any user's information. It's absolutely insane.
We’re all familiar with the PRISM scandal—what Anthropic is doing now is basically the same thing. With their strongest models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, set to be unblocked tomorrow, combined with this spy incident, it’s hard not to wonder if the U.S. and Anthropic have some kind of agreement. The more you think about it, the scarier it gets.
