[U.S. Official: Iran Has Not Received $6 Billion in Frozen Funds and Will Not Receive Them Until Compliance Is Met]
Golden Finance reported on July 1, citing the New York Post, that a U.S. government official revealed on Tuesday that Iran has not received any portion of the $6 billion in frozen assets that the U.S. had promised to release. These funds were originally pledged by the U.S. to facilitate progress in the implementation of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, aiming to bring Iran back to the negotiation table in Qatar. The U.S. official stated: 'No funds have been unfrozen at this time. Unless Iran meets the requirements outlined in the memorandum of understanding, nothing will be given for free. Everything is tied to specific benchmarks.' The U.S. official further noted that although Iran insists the funds should be paid in a lump sum, the U.S. plans to make small, phased payments directly to suppliers as Iran advances in key areas of negotiation.
