Rate hike expectations rise again—
U.S. job openings in May slightly increased to 7.594 million, slightly above the revised April figure of 7.585 million, while economists' median forecast was 7.3 million. The quit rate remained unchanged at 1.9%, layoffs saw a slight uptick, and hiring numbers were essentially flat. The Fed's closely watched metric—the number of job openings per unemployed person—also remained steady at 1:1.
