Real trading records—been operating live accounts for almost six years now. There's no such thing as always winning. Losing money is the norm. $BTC has been bouncing between the 58,200 to 61,000 range. Watching it drop, I thought, 'Let’s short it with the trend,' but then it bounced back. Hesitated for a moment, thinking it might break out, so I chased it to go long, and then it dumped again.
People are making money in this range, but they’re doing short-term trades—quick in, quick out. I’m more of a trend trader, always thinking about following the momentum. Every time I think, 'This time the market should pick a direction,' it slaps me in the face and tells me I’m overthinking. Strictly controlling drawdowns is part of my trading plan because I always set my stop-loss. Before entering any trade, I’ve already decided on the stop-loss level. So even if I hit five or six consecutive stop-losses, losing 1%-2% per trade, the overall drawdown is still within a controllable range. My account hasn’t blown up, and my mindset hasn’t collapsed.
That’s just how the market works—most of the time it’s in consolidation. Truly smooth trending markets might only account for 20% of the time. To catch that 20% opportunity, you have to endure the 80% of trial and error. And the cost of trial and error is all these small stop-losses. I don’t feel ashamed, nor do I feel like I’ve failed. This is just part of trading.
As long as every loss is within the plan, as long as the stop-losses are executed, then these losses aren’t really losses—they’re costs. Costs for participating in this market and waiting for the real trend to emerge. Once you catch that one trade and ride the trend for a while, all those previous stop-losses will be recovered. This is one of the few certainties in trading. Keep trading, keep setting stop-losses, keep managing positions, and keep entering when the signals appear.
Losing money is fine, as long as you lose with clarity.
The trend you’re waiting for will come eventually.
