[Spain's Inflation Unexpectedly Exceeds the ECB's Target Level]
Jin10 Data, June 29 – According to foreign media reports, although energy prices have declined following the peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran, Spain's inflation rate has unexpectedly remained far above the European Central Bank's 2% target level. Data released on Monday showed that Spain's harmonized CPI annual rate for June held steady at 3.6%, the same as in May. Electricity and natural gas costs were the main contributing factors, though gasoline prices somewhat curbed the inflation increase.
Spain's inflation data is the first significant inflation figure released after the ECB's rate hike. Inflation data for other major economies will be released on Tuesday, while the eurozone's overall inflation data will be published on Wednesday. The market generally expects inflation rates to ease, and recent bets on further ECB rate hikes have decreased.
