[Thailand Issues Arrest Warrant for Chinese Businessman Wang Yicheng, Accusing Him of Money Laundering Through Illegal Cryptocurrency Mining] BlockBeats reports that on June 28, Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) recently issued an arrest warrant for Chinese businessman Wang Yicheng, accusing him of being part of a criminal organization suspected of using illegal cryptocurrency mining to launder funds obtained from fraud and online gambling. Wang Yicheng, a former leader of the Thai-Chinese Trade Association, has been identified as a central figure in a group of Chinese investors involved in the case. Previously, a 2023 investigative report by Reuters focused on Wang Yicheng, revealing that a U.S.-based blockchain analytics company had discovered cryptocurrency wallets linked to fraudulent activities, which had transferred millions of dollars to accounts under Wang Yicheng's name. During the same period, he was actively cultivating relationships with Thai political and law enforcement elites. A spokesperson for Thailand's Department of Special Investigation stated that Wang Yicheng had been charged in November last year with theft and violations of the Computer Crime Act. "It is believed that the suspect has fled Thailand," the spokesperson said, adding that authorities are working with international partners to track his whereabouts. In addition, Thai authorities have simultaneously issued arrest warrants for four unnamed Chinese nationals and four Myanmar nationals. [Original Link]
