OpenAI is considering postponing its IPO to 2027, instead of the third or fourth quarter of this year. The parent company of ChatGPT had originally planned to go public with a valuation of $730 billion, and CEO Sam Altman even pushed investment banks and law firms to explore ways to reach a $1 trillion valuation. But a series of recent events has caused OpenAI to drastically change its stance. The most direct impact comes from SpaceX's post-IPO performance—this company just set the record for the largest IPO in history, raising over $85 billion, with a first-day valuation of $1.77 trillion. However, after going public, its stock price dropped from $202 all the way to $153 and continues to decline. Global markets are also in flux, with tech stocks dragging down indices, and investors are starting to question whether AI companies can deliver on their sky-high promises.
