[Macron Responds to France's Extreme Heat: Existing Adaptation Models Are Insufficient]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on June 27, French President Emmanuel Macron stated on June 26 that while France has made significant efforts in adapting to climate change, the current heatwave is extreme and unprecedented. Macron noted that this heatwave is unparalleled in European history, not only due to its prolonged duration but also because temperatures are 15 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. This kind of 'heatwave peak' is a phenomenon never seen before, and therefore, it cannot be addressed using existing adaptation models.
In his speech, Macron also mentioned that in recent years, France has been continuously advancing energy transitions and climate adaptation renovations for housing, public buildings, and infrastructure. Macron emphasized that extreme heatwaves are becoming increasingly frequent and intense. Against this backdrop, finding a balance between long-term emission reductions and adapting to the new normal is becoming a shared challenge for many European countries.
