[OpenAI to Gradually Open Access to GPT 5.6 as Requested by the U.S. Government]
According to *The Guardian*, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in an internal email that the new model GPT 5.6 will first be previewed on a small scale to select partners. Access qualifications during the preview period will be subject to "individual client approval" by the U.S. federal government. If the process goes smoothly, broader access will be opened in the following weeks. Previously, Anthropic's Mythos model, which possessed powerful hacking capabilities, was ordered by the U.S. government to restrict access to foreign users and has since been taken offline. The report noted that OpenAI's arrangement this time was made after consultations with the White House Office of the National Cyber Director and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Earlier this month, the U.S. President signed an executive order establishing a framework for voluntary review by the federal government prior to the release of advanced AI models.
