[Widespread Abnormalities in OpenAI Quota and Subscription System: Users Suddenly Granted 20x Quotas Amid Intensified API Rate Limiting]
According to monitoring by Beating, OpenAI's ChatGPT subscription and quota system has experienced widespread abnormalities, causing confusion in usage quotas and model permissions across different user tiers. Some Plus subscription users suddenly saw their interface display a 20x level, granting them high-quota permissions originally reserved for Pro subscriptions. Meanwhile, certain Pro subscription users paying $200 per month discovered their account usage quotas were abnormally reset to 75%, or their quota limits were directly increased by 4x. The system malfunction also affected model usage permissions.
A large number of Pro subscription users reported that although their account subscription status displayed as Pro, their actual usage performance had been downgraded to Plus level, and the GPT-5.5 Pro flagship inference model was missing from the model selection list. In addition to display confusion, related developer API accounts experienced accelerated Codex quota consumption after being reset. Some users reported hitting rate limits within just 5 hours after recharging $25. Another community user stated that their account, after recharging $8 in the morning, immediately hit the hourly message sending limit.
As of now, OpenAI's official status page has only marked the issue as a potential problem for users accessing Codex tokens, stating that mitigation measures have been implemented. The official response has yet to acknowledge or explain the quota calculation and account tier synchronization abnormalities faced by ChatGPT subscription users. The community widely believes that backend rate calculation and synchronization logic failures are the underlying causes of rapid quota depletion and abnormal rate limiting. [Original Link]
