OpenAI launches its first self-developed AI chip, named Jalapeño Designed independently by OpenAI and mass-produced in collaboration with Broadcom, this chip is specifically built for large language model inference workloads and will support the operation of ChatGPT, Codex, API, and future Agent-type products. OpenAI stated that chips are the infrastructure of the AI economy, and self-developed chips will drive the evolution of its full-stack platform, from products and models to infrastructure. This also marks a significant step for OpenAI in reducing its reliance on third-party chip suppliers.
