[Japan Plans to Invest $2.3 Trillion Over the Next 14 Years, Betting Big on AI and Semiconductors] According to a report by Jinse Finance, on June 24, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi unveiled Japan's long-term economic development vision, which includes large-scale investments in artificial intelligence and semiconductors, as well as other critical sectors such as defense, space, and shipbuilding. According to documents released after a meeting of Japan's policy advisory group on Wednesday, the plan proposes investing over 370 trillion yen ($2.3 trillion) over the 14 years ending in March 2041, with spending on AI and the chip sector reaching 101.6 trillion yen. The plan estimates that by the 2040 fiscal year, semiconductor investments will generate an economic ripple effect of 443 trillion yen, while investments in physical AI and vertical AI are expected to produce economic spillover effects of 144 trillion yen and 222 trillion yen, respectively.
