According to monitoring by Beating, Meta has introduced its first fully self-branded smart glasses, Meta Glasses, with a starting price of $299—$80 cheaper than the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta. The new glasses do not add any major new features, but the significant price reduction aims to capture market share ahead of competing products from Apple and Google. The new product is still manufactured in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica but completely removes the co-branding trademarks of Ray-Ban or Oakley.
In addition to the standard version, Meta has launched a special edition Meta Starfire, priced at $399, co-designed with reality TV star Kylie Jenner. The glasses are equipped only with a camera and integrated speakers, lacking augmented reality (AR) functionality. With the built-in Muse Spark model, users can use the voice assistant to take photos and videos, livestream on social platforms, or have AI recognize and interpret what they see in front of them.
Meta plans to release a total of four smart glasses this year, with the first product being Meta Glasses. Another new product, codenamed Modelo, is expected to debut as early as this month. [Original Link]
