For many families in Ackee Walk and Jackson Town, the dream of having a title for the land they call home has been years in the making.
These communities were established through government programmes aimed at improving living conditions and helping residents gain security of tenure. Over time, changes in occupancy, informal land transfers, and other challenges made the process of issuing titles more complicated than it should have been.
That is why, in October 2024, we declared these communities under the Registration of Titles, Cadastral Mapping and Tenure Clarification Special Provisions Act. This gives us the legal framework to work directly with residents and move the regularization process forward.
Instead of waiting on residents to navigate the system on their own, government teams are going door to door, helping families verify occupancy, gather the necessary documents, and complete the steps required to have titles issued in their names.
We remain committed to working with the residents of Ackee Walk and Jackson Town until this process is completed and more families can enjoy the security that comes with owning their land.(Andrew Holness)
