The message actually comes from a MetaMask-eth (capital version) ENS account owned by an unrelated third party. MetaMask officially owns the all lowercase word 'metamask-eth'. Due to ENS allowing both uppercase and lowercase versions, and most platforms displaying lowercase names by default, the public mistakenly believed that the message was from the official source.
