Nanjing police crack down on China's largest gold theft case worth 27 million yuan and recover all stolen assets Odaily Planet Daily reported that the Nanjing police in Jiangsu and the Chongzuo Border Management Detachment in Guangxi have collaborated across provinces to successfully solve a major gold theft case worth 27 million yuan. The main culprits of the case, Wang and Tong, were burdened with huge gambling debts. Together with another accomplice, they planned and carried out a theft operation against a luxury goods store in Jiangning District, Nanjing. They stole 37 gold products weighing 27 kilograms. After the incident, the main culprit, Tong, carried some gold and took a ride hailing car south in an attempt to sneak out of the country through a small path. He was accurately intercepted and captured by police officers from the Chongzuo Aidian Border Police Station only a hundred meters away from the China Vietnam border, and 8.75 kilograms of gold were seized on the spot. Subsequently, another accomplice who had flown to Thailand, Wang, was arrested in Bangkok and extradited back to China. At present, all 11 suspect in the case have been brought to justice, and all 27 kilograms of stolen gold have been recovered. (China Newsweek)
