BitMine is paying 9.5% to hold an asset that yields 3%. And every time ETH dumps, Tom Lee just opens the BitMine wallet and buys more ETH. is BitMine running a smart ETH treasury strategy or quietly becoming the biggest ETH bagholder in the market? I think the answer's somewhere in the middle. BitMine now holds around 5.6M ETH, worth roughly $9B+, or about 4.66% of total ETH supply. Their target is what they call the “Alchemy of 5%.” • Own ~5% of all ETH supply. • Stake most of it. • Earn ETH yield on that stack. • Use that yield to keep compounding. It’s kinda like MicroStrategy stacking BTC, with one difference. ETH is not just sitting there. BitMine already has around 4.7M ETH staked, which can generate roughly $220M to $270M per year at current staking yields. Tom Lee’s trying to build a public-market ETH compounding machine. And this is where MAVAN comes in. It's BitMine's own staking and validator network. So after they conclude the aggressive buying phase, the plan is to own enough ETH, stake it through their own infra, earn the rewards, and eventually turn that infra into something institutions can plug into too. Now here's the part I keep coming back to though. The funding side. BitMine raised money through preferred shares, which basically means investors give them capital and BitMine has to pay them a fixed dividend. That dividend is 9.5%, while ETH staking yield is closer to 3%. They're paying almost three times what the asset earns. That gap is fine when ETH is stable, the stock trades well, and investors are still willing to fund the strategy. But if ETH keeps falling and BitMine’s stock stops trading above the value of its ETH holdings, raising the next round gets harder and a lot more expensive. If that happens it can get ugly fast. So the thing I'm watching isn't how much ETH BitMine owns. It's what happens after they hit 5%. Is BitMine becoming the MicroStrategy of ETH with staking yield baked in?
