[Institution: Bank of England More Likely to Cut Rates Than Raise Them Next] Jin10 News, June 18 – Suren Thiru of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales stated that the Bank of England's next move is more likely to be a rate cut rather than a hike. After the Bank of England kept interest rates unchanged at 3.75% on Thursday, Thiru remarked that the central bank might enter a prolonged period of policy observation to assess geopolitical uncertainties and domestic political instability. "UK monetary policy is currently at a crossroads," Thiru said. The U.S.-Iran peace agreement has raised market expectations for easing inflation, but if hostilities flare up again, "the situation could quickly shift back toward rate hikes." However, he noted that given the high level of global turbulence, it is unlikely the Bank of England will initiate rate cuts before next year.
