[Pantheon Macroeconomics: Swiss National Bank May Raise Interest Rates in 2027 to Enhance Flexibility]
According to a report by Gold Finance on June 18, Ankita Amajuri from Pantheon Macroeconomics stated that due to inflation rates likely exceeding the Swiss National Bank's expectations, the central bank may raise interest rates in the first quarter of 2027. Early 2027 inflation rates are expected to approach the midpoint of the Swiss National Bank's 0%-2% target range. However, the risk-averse Swiss National Bank may take this opportunity to raise rates to create policy space for addressing deflation in the future, without resorting to negative policy rates. Swiss National Bank President Thomas Jordan has previously stated that the bank has flexibility, but he has repeatedly emphasized that the threshold for lowering rates below zero again is very high.
