Where is the US' gold stockpile? Fort Knox currently holds ~147.3 million troy ounces of gold, the most of any US location, representing ~60% of the total US gold reserves managed by the Treasury. Fort Knox is the US Bullion Depository in Kentucky and has served as the primary storage site for gold owned outright by the US government since 1937. By comparison, West Point in New York holds ~54.1 million troy ounces of gold, and Denver in Colorado holds ~43.9 million troy ounces. Both facilities also serve as active US Mint coin production sites alongside their role as gold depositories. Meanwhile, the New York Fed vault holds just ~13.4 million troy ounces, or 9% of Fort Knox. Fort Knox is the backbone of US gold reserves.(The Kobeissi Letter)
