[Amazon Announces Multi-Billion Dollar Investment in Missouri to Build Data Center Campus, Expected to Create Over 400 Long-Term Jobs]
BlockBeats News, June 16: Amazon announced plans to invest billions of dollars in Montgomery County, Missouri, to build an advanced data center campus. The project is expected to create over 400 full-time data center positions and thousands of construction jobs, while generating hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue. As part of its commitment, Amazon will invest over $7 million in the local community, including $3 million for emergency dispatch services, over $1 million to build the Montgomery County Exhibition Hall Community Activity Center, and establish a community fund to support local projects.
Amazon stated that the project will drive upgrades to road and water infrastructure and will collaborate with local utility company Ameren Missouri to ensure that the additional electricity costs for the data center will not be passed on to other residential users.
In terms of sustainability, Amazon noted that the data center will use natural air cooling approximately 90% of the time, with water cooling used less than 7% of the year. At full capacity, the water consumption will account for less than 0.1% of the annual recharge rate of the local aquifer. The company also plans to implement rainwater harvesting and recycling systems to reuse water resources and will partner with Arable Labs to save approximately 100 million gallons of water annually for the local watershed through smart agriculture projects.
Amazon highlighted that since 2017, the company has employed over 10,000 people in Missouri and contributed more than $9 billion in GDP to the local economy. This data center investment will further support the development of cloud computing and AI infrastructure. [Original Link]
