Baidu releases PP-OCRv6: Millions of parameters comparable to billions of VLM, single model supports 50 languages Golden Finance reported that Baidu PaddlePaddle team released a new generation of OCR system PP-OCRv6, which provides three versions of Tiny 1.5M, Small 7.7M and Medium 34.5M, covering edge devices, browsers and cloud deployment scenarios. Compared with the previous generation PP-OCRv5, the detection accuracy rate increased by 4.6%, the recognition accuracy rate increased by 5.1%, and Chinese, English, Japanese and 46 Latin languages were integrated into the same unified model. PP-OCRv6 redesigns the detection and identification network, and introduces the unified module structure and structural reparameterization technology to improve the accuracy and reduce the computational overhead. Under OpenVINO optimization, the Medium version can increase end-to-end CPU inference speed by up to 5.2 times. The officially released test results show that PP-OCRv6 achieves performance close to or even exceeding some billion level visual language models VLM on multiple OCR benchmarks with parameter scales of tens of millions. The team also conducted specialized optimizations for scenarios such as handwriting, industrial component identification, digital tubes, PCB screen printing, and CAD drawings. At present, the relevant code has been integrated into the PaddleOCR project and is open source.
