[Anthropic CEO Calls for Strengthened AI Regulation in the U.S.]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on June 11, according to Decrypt, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an article on Wednesday stating that the U.S. government needs to impose binding safety requirements on the most powerful AI models, as the era of transparency-based regulation has ended. In his article, 'Policy and the Exponential Development of AI,' Amodei advocates that cutting-edge AI systems should undergo technical testing and audits, similar to airplanes, and should be prohibited from release if they fail to meet safety standards.
Amodei's proposal calls for mandatory third-party testing of advanced AI models, covering four categories of risks: cybersecurity, bioweapons, runaway risks, and automated research and development. It also grants the government the authority to block unsafe deployments.
This proposal comes as Anthropic is preparing for an IPO, having previously completed a $6.5 billion Series H funding round, with a valuation reaching $96.5 billion. Critics, such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, have questioned whether strict regulations might serve as a justification for a few companies to concentrate control over the technology.
