'Father of GPT' Altman Admits Token Costs Have Become a Major Issue

On June 2, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman candidly acknowledged during the 'Intelligence at Work' event that the cost of AI tokens has now become a significant problem. He shared some data: six and a half years ago, the world's most intensive token user consumed 100,000 tokens per month; but today, that amount is equivalent to the global per capita level, while the current top user burns through a staggering 100 billion tokens per month—a million-fold increase. He stated that OpenAI aims to make AI a fundamental infrastructure like water and electricity in the future, allowing everyone to use it without worrying about costs.
