[Iranian Foreign Minister: The Strait of Hormuz is not international waters]
Odaily Planet Daily News - Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz is not international waters but is jointly owned by Iran and Oman, and it is located thousands of miles away from the U.S. coastline. The maritime boundaries are very clear. The narrowest point of the Strait of Hormuz is only 21 nautical miles wide, approximately 39 kilometers, and the entire strait falls within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. From a legal perspective, Iran believes this grants Iran and Oman the right to regulate passage through the strait.
