[Confidential Transfer Feature Public Beta Launched on Sui Devnet, Supporting Privacy for Transfer Amounts and Account Balances]
Sui announced on the X platform that the confidential transfer feature has been launched in a public beta version on Sui Devnet. Transfer amounts and balances will remain private, while providing controlled visibility for compliance and auditability. Sui stated that in traditional blockchains, every transaction is fully public, akin to writing the amount on the outside of an envelope for anyone to see. Confidential transfers, on the other hand, are like sealing the amount inside the envelope—sender and receiver addresses remain visible, but the amount is hidden. Issuers, exchanges, or regulatory bodies can access the information when necessary. Transfer amounts and balances are kept private, and authorized parties can maintain access through defined policies, with audit records fully preserved. Sui claims this eliminates structural barriers for institutions, fintech, and payment platforms to adopt public blockchains. Launch partners include Stablecoin, TRM Labs, and Merkle Science.
