[China's Ministry of State Security Issues Warning to AI Transit Stations: Some Platforms Secretly Retain and Sell User Data for Large Model Training] According to monitoring by Dongcha Beating, China's Ministry of State Security publicly issued a statement on June 8, warning about the security risks of 'AI transit stations' that aggregate domestic and international large model API proxy services. As intermediaries connecting users with large model providers, these transit platforms attract a significant number of users in China by integrating multiple models, offering low-cost subsidies, and facilitating direct connections to overseas large models. The Ministry of State Security pointed out that the current transit market operates in a disorderly manner, giving rise to multiple security risks such as privacy leaks and uncontrolled data transfers abroad. Transit platforms, as third-party interfaces, generally lack proper data encryption and management mechanisms. Some operators secretly retain user data and sell it to other large model providers for system training. To cut costs, certain transit services use low-performance models disguised as high-end models and disable verification functions, leading to distorted and inaccurate model outputs. Some transit stations even hide backdoors, allowing malicious actors to implant harmful code into user devices to steal account credentials or conduct remote surveillance. Additionally, some platforms, lacking compliance qualifications for data transfer abroad, have illegally transmitted data overseas, exposing personal privacy, trade secrets, and national secrets to leakage risks. The Cyberspace Administration of China has recently launched a nationwide campaign titled 'Clear and Bright: Rectifying AI Application Disorders.' The Ministry of State Security advises users to choose authorized and secure platforms when using transit services, preprocess sensitive data such as project information and personal privacy to remove identifying details, manage encryption keys carefully, and regularly update credentials. If any activities that endanger national security are discovered through transit services, users can report them via 12339 or the Ministry of State Security platform. [Original Link]
