[Hungary's New Technology Minister Announces Removal of Restrictions on the Crypto Market]
According to a report by Cryptobriefing on June 8, as cited by Jinse Finance, Hungary's new Technology Minister, Zoltán Tanács, announced plans to remove previously deemed unreasonable restrictions on the crypto market. Regulations implemented by the government on July 1, 2025, introduced criminal penalties for unauthorized crypto services, leading platforms like Revolut to cease offering crypto services in Hungary and significantly increasing compliance costs for local businesses. Tanács described these regulations as politically motivated measures rather than prudent oversight.
Additionally, Tanács mentioned the possibility of amending regulations related to cybersecurity auditing agencies under the EU's NIS2 directive. Currently, approximately 4,000 Hungarian companies face a compliance deadline of June 30.
Zoltán Tanács assumed the role of Technology Minister in May 2026 under Hungary's new government, formed following the April elections.
