Early Member of OpenAI's Chip Team Leaves to Join Anthropic Clive Chan, an early core member of OpenAI's in-house chip team, has announced his departure and will be joining Anthropic this week. Chan was the second hardware hire at OpenAI and worked there for 2.4 years, fully involved in the in-house chip project. In his resignation statement, he described the team as having a 'high density of hardware talent' and called it one of the strongest chip design teams he has ever seen. OpenAI previously disclosed that its in-house chip production is planned to begin mass production in the second half of 2026. Chan mentioned that he cannot share more details about the chips for now but suggested keeping an eye on related updates in the near future.
