[After Republican Redistricting, Democrats Need to Win Nearly 2% More to Retake the House] According to a report by Jinse Finance on June 7, Republican-led states have completed the redrawing of congressional districts. For Democrats to retake the majority in the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, they would need to win nearly 5 percentage points more in the national popular vote compared to the 2024 results. An analysis by Axios found that the new maps effectively give Republicans an advantage of nearly 2 percentage points in the national popular vote. Among the 10 states with redistricted maps, Democrats currently hold 80 seats, while Republicans hold 101 seats. Democrats would only need to flip 3 seats to gain control of the House, which will determine whether Trump’s final two years in office face congressional checks and balances.
