The New York State Supreme Court has stayed a default judgment involving 39,069 Bitcoin wallets, which collectively hold approximately 3.8 million BTC, valued at around $293 billion. The plaintiff, Noah Doe, attempted to claim ownership of these long-dormant wallets under New York's lost property laws. However, New York attorney Ian R. Cohen filed an amicus brief arguing that being dormant for a long time does not equate to abandonment of ownership, and Bitcoin cannot be handed over to the police like physical property. The court stayed the proceedings on June 5, and the case awaits further hearings. Additionally, some of the listed addresses in the case have recently shown on-chain activity, including one wallet dormant since 2011 that transferred 47.26 BTC.
