For the first time in internet history, bot traffic has officially surpassed human traffic. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince confirmed that proxy traffic has, for the first time ever, exceeded human traffic. Check out the chart below from Cloudflare Radar—data shows bots now account for 57.5% of all HTTP requests to HTML pages globally. Human traffic has dropped to 42.5% (Cloudflare Radar data). Cloudflare originally predicted this milestone would be reached in 2027. The explosion of AI agents has accelerated this timeline by a full year. This shift will have a significant impact on infrastructure costs, bandwidth pricing, security models, and the entire internet economy. A tweet from September 2023 even speculated: while DAUs (Daily Active Users) are the natives of the mobile internet, the natives of the future virtual world, the metaverse, are likely to be bots—possibly agents. These bots won’t be limited by a single entity and will have unlimited attention to fulfill various human needs. It’s been less than three years, and this prediction is already on the verge of becoming reality.
