[South Korean Police Launch First Investigation into Polymarket Domestic Users for Illegal Gambling]
According to South Korea's SBS News, South Korean police are investigating domestic users of the prediction market platform Polymarket on suspicion of illegal gambling. While Polymarket is legal in the United States, it is considered private gambling in South Korea and classified as illegal. The Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, under the direction of the National Police Agency, is conducting investigations into users nationwide, including those in Gangwon Province. This marks the first investigation into Polymarket users in South Korea. Under current laws, all betting activities on gambling websites, except for Sports Toto operated by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, are deemed illegal. Domestic Polymarket users could face fines of up to 10 million Korean won.
