AI is reshaping the on chain attack and defense landscape: In the past two years, the monthly frequency of on chain attacks has increased by 2.8 times compared to before, and the pressure on protocol security has significantly increased On June 5th, according to BlockBeats statistics, the monthly frequency of on chain attacks has increased by about 2.8 times since the popularization of AI. Using 2020-2021 as the baseline for large-scale use of AI, there were an average of approximately 3.7 on chain attack incidents per month; In the past two years from June 5, 2024 to June 5, 2026, there have been an average of about 10.4 on chain attacks per month, with a total of 250 incidents. From annual data, there were 17 on chain attack incidents in 2020, 71 in 2021, and 67 in 2022; After the release of ChatGPT, the number of incidents has increased to 97 in 2023, 94 in 2024, 97 in 2025, and 96 in 2026 (approximately 225 annually). The data shows that the number of attack incidents will remain consistently higher than the early baseline after 2023. The high-frequency attack window is concentrated from the end of 2025 to 2026. Among them, there were 24 attacks within the 56 day window after the release of GPT-5.2 on December 11, 2025; Within the 42 day window following the release of GPT-5.4 on March 5, 2026, there were 21 attacks; After the release of GPT-5.5 on April 23, 2026, there were 38 attacks within a 35 day window, the highest in the chart. The frequency of on chain attacks has significantly increased after the popularization of AI, and has remained high in several recent model release windows, indicating that encrypted security attacks and defenses are entering a higher frequency and more automated stage. With the improvement of AI assisted auditing, vulnerability discovery, and attack script generation capabilities, the importance of protocol security, smart contract auditing, and real-time monitoring is further increasing.
